Dear Parents and Carers,
In light of the UK Government outlining plans for all schools to convert to academies by 2030, the Governors of Bearwood School will begin this year carefully looking at the implications of our school becoming an academy. We will be considering joining a group of schools, known as a Multi-Academy Trust.
The need to academise is one that has arisen across the country, as changes to funding mean that Wokingham Council can no longer fully support our local schools as they have done historically. This is critical when it comes to the most important services and support the local authority currently provides for schools. We would look to join a Multi-Academy Trust who could offer the range of services to the level previously offered by Wokingham.
This decision will be considered and examined in depth to ensure that we make the best decision for our school. Additionally, the Governors are very aware of the momentum that the school is gathering in terms of results, general improvement and increased pupil numbers. We know that the academisation process must not get in the way of this trajectory and should only enhance us as a school. The academisation process will have no impact on the school experience for our children or the day-to-day teaching and learning.
The decision whether to academise or not is a strategic one that will be taken by the Governing Body, however we are keen as part of this process to consider all the views of the wider school community. We want to ensure we make the right decision that best serves the needs of the school, pupils and school community. We will of course be keen to hear the views of the parents and guardians.
We will be holding a Parent Forum meeting at the school on Tuesday 21st February at 9am. Academisation and what it means will be one of the items we will be discussing. We encourage you to attend to find out more.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support as the school continues to move forward.
